Our Vision
A safe, healthy and enriching environment for both the people and animals of our community

Our Mission
To promote compassion, wellness and partnership between people and animals

HSHC is an independent, non-profit, limited admission animal rescue with a No-Kill policy.

We are not affiliated with any other organization or the Humane Society of the United States. The term "humane society" means that we advocate the humane treatment of animals. We work in partnership with Harris County Animal Control and other regional shelters toward achieving a No-Kill community. We do not receive any city, state, or federal funding. The HSHC exists because of the donations and support of our community and the steadfast dedication of our hardworking staff and volunteers.

HSHC cannot admit all homeless dogs and cats in our community because we do not have the space to do so. However, the animals in our care live here as long as it takes to find a home. HSHC does not euthanize any animal for behavior, space, or time. Euthanasia is performed only when medically necessitated at the advice of a veterinarian.

The Humane Society of Harris County opposes breed discrimination and believes in the humane, fair, and equal treatment of all animals.

Recycling for our            Animals
HSHC is dedicated to both the welfare of animals and to the care of our environment.  Recycling of aluminum and metal keeps these items out of landfills and from contaminating our water and soil.  It also has the added benefit of creating financial support for the animals in our care. We offer recycling trailers for aluminum throughout Harris County and North Columbus. Metal items such as refrigerators, washing machines, gutters, doors, etc. can be dropped off at our Adoption Center at 3938 Barnes Mill Rd., Hamilton, GA or you can call 706.582.3007 to arrange pick-ups.
